Diagnosing Electrical Malfunctions
Starting Motor
Before you troubleshoot the starting motor, make sure
the battery terminals are not loose or corroded.
Engine Does Not Crank
If the solenoid does not make an audible sound, check
for loose wiring connections.
Check the voltage at the solenoid battery post.
No voltage check the condition of the battery.
Check the connections at the battery, engine and
solenoid.
12 volts at the solenoid battery post check the
voltage at the S (switch) terminal on the solenoid.
The ignition switch must be in the start position.
The solenoid is at fault if the check indicates 12 volts at
the S terminal.
