Section XII. CARRIER LOW AIR PRESSURE WARNING SWITCH
378. General
The carrier low pressure indicator is a safety service
designed to give an automatic warning to the operator
when the air pressure in the air brake system is below
the minimum advisable for normal vehicle operation. It
operates an electrical buzzer or warning light. When the
reservoir air pressure drops below 60 pounds, the
diaphragm spring exerts a force above the diaphragm
which is greater than the force exerted by the air
pressure below the diaphragm, causing the diaphragm
to move down and close the electrical contacts. This
completes or closes the electrical circuit to the electrical
buzzer or warning light.
