TROUBLESHOOTING.
Listed below are troubles that may occur in the Coolant System.
TROUBLE
PROBABLE CAUSE
REMEDY
Radiator air flow obstructed:
Engine overheating.
Leaves, dirt and foreign material.
Clean away obstruction.
Bent fan blades.
Straighten blades or re-
place fan.
Improper or damaged thermostat.
Replace thermostat.
Improper valve timing or
sticking valves.
Check and repair or re-
time engine.
Check and correct.
Stiff rebuilt engine.
Dragging brakes.
Check brakes and repair
as required.
Low engine oil level.
Check and add oil as
required.
Engine overloaded.
Operate engine in proper
load range.
Overcooling.
Thermostat not installed
Install thermostat.
Damaged thermostat stuck open
Replace thermostat.
Short runs and intermittent
driving.
Engine overheating.
Coolant loss due to:
Check, locate, and repair
Leaks at any of the following:
leaks. Replace hoses,
gaskets, hose connections, water
clamps, and other parts
pump, radiator, heater, wore
as required.
plugs, drain cock or plugs,
cracked head or block.
NOTE
INTERNAL LEAKAGE IS INDICATED
BY THE PRESENCE OF COOLANT IN
IN THE RADIATOR. CHECK FOR
CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD OR BLOCK,
OR A BLOWN HEAD GASKET.
Boiling - may be caused by any
of the following:
Radiator or other parts of
Drain and flush cooling
cooling system clogged with
system.
rust or scale.
Grille or bug screen clogged
Clear obstructions.
Radiator core fins damaged
Straighten fins.
Thermostat damaged - stuck
Replace thermostat.
