GeneralThe crane engine intake and exhaust systemconsists of the intake and exhaust manifolds, muffler,and exhaust pipe. The intake manifold provides anindividual passage for each cylinder to deliver the fuel-air mixture from the carburetor. The exhaust manifoldcarries the exhaust gases from the combustionchambers to the muffler and discharges them into theatmosphere.103. Muffler and Pipea.Remove the exhaust pipe and muffler asinstructed on figure 38.b.Cleaning and Inspection.(1)Clean the muffler and exhaust pipe with awire brush.(2)Inspect the muffler and exhaust pipe forbreaks, bends, burned out condition, andother damage. Replace defective mufflerand exhaust pipe.c.installation.Install the muffler and exhaust pipeas illustrated on figure 38.104.
