Fabric materials such ascord, tape, and webbing that are cutfor use in the maintenance of airdelivery equipment will normally beheat-seared or dipped in a melted waxmixture, as applicable, to prevent thematerial from fraying or unraveling.However, in some instances thepreparation of the material may not benecessary and will be specifiedaccordingly.Searing.The cut ends of nylon tape, webbing, andcord lengths may be prepared by heat-searing which isperformed by pressing the raw end of the materialagainst a hot metal surface (knife) until the nylon hasmelted sufficiently. Avoid forming a sharp edge orlumped effect on the melted end.3-15
