TM 5-3810-207-20/TO 36C23-3-37-12(e)The carrier engine is equipped withspecial suppressed spark plugs tosuppress radio interference.(f)Instructions for replacement of theabove suppression components willbe found in the applicablemaintenance section of this manual.(2)Shielded cables.(a)The carrier generator is equippedwith a shielded cable connecting thegenerator to the generator regulator.(b)The ignition cables that connect thespark plugs to the distributor are ofthe shielded type.Note.Do not pull on the cable or twist thebraided shielding. Gently work thecable from side to side and free therubber seal. Do not use sharp metaltools to install the rubber seal.67. Replacement of Suppression Componentsa.General. For replacement, suppressioncomponents must be identical to the original part.Capacitors must be the same size and have the samemicrofarad and voltage rating as the part beingreplaced. Special care must be taken to be certainthere is a good metal-to-metal contact with washers andbonding straps.b.Primary Suppression Components.(1)Ground straps. Replace ground straps asillustrated on figure 5.(2)Suppression cover. Replace suppressioncover as illustrated on figure 5.(3)Suppression receptacle. Replacesuppression receptacle as illustrated onfigure 5.c.Secondary Suppression Components (Crane).(1)Tooth-type lockwashers.(a)Replace the generator tooth-typelockwashers (par. 72).(b)Replace the generator regulatortooth-type lockwashers (par. 73).(c)Replace the distributor tooth-typelockwashers (par. 74).(d)Replace starter and solenoid tooth-type lockwashers (pars. 77 and 78).(e)Replace the spark plugs (par. 76).(2)Shielded cables.(a)Replace the shielded generator-to-generator regulator cable (pars. 72and 73).(b)Replace the spark plug-to-distributorignition cables (par. 76).d.Secondary Suppression Components (Carrier).(1)Tooth-type lockwashers.(a)Replace the generator tooth-typelockwashers (par. 206).(b)Replace the generator regulatortooth-type lockwashers (par. 208).(c)Replace the distributor tooth-typelockwashers (par. 200).(d)Replace the starter and solenoidtooth type lockwashers (pars. 203and 204).(e)Replace the spark plugs (par. 202).(2)Shielded cables.(a)Replace the shielded generator-to-generator regulator cable (pars.206 and 208).(b)Replace the spark plug-to-distributorignition cables (par. 202).68. Testing or Radio Interference SuppressionComponentsTest the capacitors for leaks and shorts on acapacitor tester; replace defective capacitors. If testequipment is not available and interference is indicated, isolate the cause of interference by trial-and-errormethod of replacing each capacitor in turn until thecause of interference is located and eliminated.27
