Paint the engine.
Engine Storage - Short Term (14-09)
NOTE
This procedure describes the correct method
of preparing an engine for short-term (1 to 6
months) storage. Operate the engine at high
idle until the coolant temperature reaches
70C [160F].
Shut off the engine.
Remove the fuel tube to the engine fuel filter and the
injector return tube.
NOTE
Fuel system preservative oil must meet
Federal Specification VV-L-800C. (Example:
Daubert Chemical NoxRust No. 518.)
Fill two containers, one with diesel fuel and the other
container of diesel fuel.
Start the engine. When it is operating smoothly, put the

tainer. When preservative oil flows from the tube, shut
off the engine.
Install the fuel supply tube to the fuel filter, and put a
cap on all other fuel tubes.
