n e c t i n g  r o d a n d t h e p i s t o n  r i n g s  in
place,  apply clean engine oil to the pis-
ton,  rings and the inside surface of the
p i s t o n ring compressor J 3272-03.
NOTE
Inspect the ring compressor for
n i c k s o r b u r r s ,  especially at the
non-tapered inside diameter end.
Nicks or burrs on the inside diam-
eter of the compressor will result
i n damage to the piston rings.
2. Place the piston ring compressor on a
wood block, with the tapered end of the
compressor facing up.
3. Position (stagger) the piston ring gaps
properly on the piston.
Make sure the
ends of the oil control ring expanders
are not overlapped.
4. Start the top of the piston straight in-

7. Remove the hold-down clamp and the
cylinder
liner.
NOTE
Do not remove the liner insert.

sembly
