Theexhaust manifold expels burned exhaust gas from thecylinders, through the exhaust pipe and muffler, to theatmosphere. The intake manifold delivers the air and fuelmixture to each cylinder.262. Mufflera.Removal. Remove the carrier muffler asinstructed on figure 160.b.Cleaning and Inspection.(1)Clean all parts in an approved cleaningsolvent with a wire brush.(2)Inspect muffler for cracks, holes, leaks, andother damage.(3)Inspect the tailpipe for bends, cracks, rust,and other damage.(4)Inspect all clamps and mounting hardware.Replace all defective muffler parts asnecessary.c.Installation. Install the muffler as illustrated onfigure 160.263. Intake and Exhaust Manifolda.Removal.(1)Remove the muffler (par. 262).(2)Remove the carburetor from the intakemanifold (par. 246).(3)Remove the fuel priming lines and fittings(par. 251).(4)Remove the intake and exhaust manifold innumerical sequence as instructed on figure161.b.Cleaning and Inspection.(1)Clean all parts with an approved cleaningsolvent.(2)Inspect the intake manifold and exhaustmanifold and sections and center sectionsfor cracks, breaks, or warps. Replace asnecessary.(3)Inspect all capscrews, nuts, and studs forstripped or burred threads.
