Theexhaust manifold expels burned exhaust gas from thecylinders, through the exhaust pipe and muffler, to theatmosphere. The intake manifold delivers the air and fuelmixture to each cylinder.262. Mufflera.Removal. Remove the carrier muffler asinstructed on figure 160.b.Cleaning and Inspection.(1)Clean all parts in an approved cleaningsolvent with a wire brush.(2)Inspect muffler for cracks, holes, leaks, andother damage.(3)Inspect the tailpipe for bends, cracks, rust,and other damage.(4)Inspect all clamps and mounting hardware.Replace all defective muffler parts asnecessary.c.Installation. Install the muffler as illustrated onfigure 160.263.
