(Refer to page 17-7.)Overhaul ball removed. (Refer to page 17-4.)REMOVAL:1.REMOVE WIRE ROPE FROM MAIN AND/ORAUXILIARY HOISTS.a.Attach end of wire rope to empty cable storagereel.CAUTIONAlways maintain tension on wire ropewith storage drum to prevent birdcaging wire rope on hoist drum.b.Slowly run hoist in lowering direction and take upwire rope on storage reel. Turn storage reel insame direction that hoist drum is turning.c.When hoist drum is empty, remove cable anchorwedge from socket in hoist drum and wind wirerope on storage drum.INSTALLATION:1.INSTALL WIRE ROPE ON MAIN AND/ORAUXILIARY HOISTS.a.Position wire rope over upper boom nosesheave and route to hoist drum by passing wirerope under roller of cable idler.b.Rotate hoist drum so wire rope anchor slot is ontop.c.Insert wire rope through anchor slot and positionaround anchor wedge as shown.NOTEThe end of wire rope should be evenwith bottom of anchor wedge.d.Position anchor wedge in drum slot; pull firmly onfree end of wire rope to secure wedge in slot.NOTEIf the wedge does not seat securely inthe slot, carefully tap the top of thewedge with a mallet.CAUTIONWhen wire rope is wound fromstorage reel, reel should rotate insame direction as hoist drum.17-13
